Bradford & Bingley will stop selling mortgages of other banks and building societies from today and begin selling own-branded home loans in its 205 branches across the UK.
The bank will offer buy-to-let and self-certification mortgages together with standard mortgages for people wanting to remortgage or move home, as well as deals for first-time buyers.
The bank said it will become the first nationwide high street lender of self-certification mortgages for self-employed people and those who want to borrow against other sources of income in addition to their regular salary.
Mark Stevens, managing director of group strategy for Bradford & Bingley, said: “We remain committed to selling mortgages through independent brokers and financial advisers but there is demand for these more specialist mortgages on the high street.
“Our mortgage advisers will offer customers advice about the best mortgage to suit their individual circumstances whether they are looking to invest in property, are self-employed or want a standard mortgage from a brand they trust."
